New laptop

Splooged some savings on a new laptop. It's made (well designed) by British company star labs, and is designed for Linux. Really it cost a bit over the odds for what it is, but I don't care because it's lovely. I think this will lead to me "working out" a lot more for the next few months :)

I've also made a change by putting a non-debian based distro on there for the first time in.. Forever. I've stuck manjaro on there which is like "the ubuntu of arch". Really liking that so far as well.

Grrr

Twitter really isn't the greatest advert for ruby, or more specifically ruby on rails. It's just about the most popular rails site that I can think of and it's always broken.

Even PHP sites like last.fm are 100 times more reliable. Grumble, I want my "bbctms" tweets :)

Shiny

Hmm, the new eeeeeeeeeeepc model looks nice. More screen, more memory, more expensive :). Still not quite enough battery but you can always get a spare I suppose.

Laptops, linux..

Linux has come a long way since I last owned a laptop.. I put in my 180M debian net'install cd and not long later it's booting having perfectly detected *all* the hardware down wirelessly downloaded the useful bits of software, no messing. No fun at all really :)

(no subject)

Soon I will be back in the ranks of the Thinkpad owners :) I've got an X31 winging it's way to me, should be here by the end of the week.

It's a nice model too, before they stated screwing them up with iccy trackpads but modern enough to be usefull (pentum M 1.4, wireless, etc).
