Looking out at the wider world isn't good for the soul..
Trump just announced that the US is going to (try) and withdraw from the Paris climate change agreement. There's already lots of push-back, including from sensible voices within the US. But this is a depressing turn of events, hopefully a temporary setback but the agreement itself was insufficent and needed to be a change of momentum to turn the tide rather than a real solution, so a setback at this stage.. Depressing.
What about home? Well as I write we're in the middle of a pretty depressing election. Teresa May has picked up on the fact that she's loosing the arguments, so now she's just hiding along with much of the conservative party. Hiding and darlek-esque repeating of simple slogans seems to be the Conservative election strategy. What's more, it'll probably work.
FPTP is doing it's usual polarising job crushing the Green and Liberal vote, Labour have made impressive gains but from such a low base that it still looks like the Conservatives will be able to claim an increased mandate. What's most galling is contrasting the "strong and stable" mantra they are using with the cowardly, muddled disaster that they actually seem to be.
Still.. If you ignore all the impending doom it's shaping up to be a lovely summer here in High Peak!
