Boooooks Revisited
Apr. 6th, 2010 11:48 amI enjoyed my holiday books (although I should have taken more, ended up re-reading Good Omens):
Excellent, but far too plausible! A fun informative, paranoid, read. Very topical in the current age of surveillance and crushing privacy in the name of terrorism prevention. There is a lot of info dumping but this really worked quite well and it's almost as much a security primer as it is fiction.
If you've read any fourlands books (if not I recommend starting at the beginning with "Year of our War") then this is quite different from the rest. This one goes back in time to a much earlier (surprisingly much less messed up) Jant. There's no drug abuse at all! No other universe insanity! Just Jant returning to his Rydanne homeland and getting embroiled in conspiracy and conflict. It should be hopelessly mundane compared to the other books, and yet, it was still fascinating. Earlier Jant and Lightning were great fun to read about. Still I hope the next book is back at the end of what's going on because I want some more information about San damnit!
